As of July 1 the Kansas Parole Board will no longer be in existence. In January Governor Brownback signed an order to abolish the board. The Senate's inability to reject the Governor's reorganization order in March will now result in all Parole Board duties being shifted to the Department of Corrections starting July first. According to an article by the Associated Press, "Brownback says the move would save the state an estimated $500,000," but "[c]ritics say it creates a potential conflict for prison officials who must weigh releasing inmates with concerns about prison overcrowding."

FAQ: What to do if your arrested.
If you find yourself being arrested the following is a list of tips to remember:
1. Contact an attorney immediately
2. Do NOT talk with the police
* The police may indicate they want to help you and coerce you into giving a statement you shouldn't. No matter how "casual" a comment may seem, it is still an official statement and can be used against you.
3. Do not allow searches
* Under the 4th Amendment you have a right to refuse a search, USE THIS RIGHT.
